Question: Summarize the points made in the lecture, being sure to explain how they cast doubt on specific solutions presented in reading passage.
Facing the fact that Torreya taxifoha are in danger of extinction, the passage offers three ways to save Torreya. But the lecturer believes that none of the solutions is satisfying. Sound reasons are further given to support her idea.

First, the passage contends that by reestablishing in the same location where Torreya used to live can it be preserved. As the specific microclimate within the area, being wet and cool, is suitable for Torreya to grow. However, the lecturer casts doubt on this method, saying such way is unlikely to be successful because the region where Torreya used to live has be strongly affected by global warming, resulting in drier climate in many area.

Second, according to the passage, Torreya can be moved to entirely different location which is wetter and cooler. Conversely, the lecturer points out that relocating is also invalid. The lecturer proved her idea with a example of the Black Locust tree, which spread so quickly that killed plants, many of which are endangered species, in the new environment. Therefore, relocating may lead to unpredicted outcome.

Finally, the passage maintains that Torreya\\\'s being kept in research centers, provided with closely monitored environment is to preserve the species. What\\\'s more, not only the trees can be protected, but also research can be conducted. On the contrary, the lecturer asserts that being kept in research centers makes Torreya irresistant to disease. The environment in a research centers is of no genetical diversity, and thus is incapable to raise trees. If Torreya are preserved in research centers, they are unlikely to survive disease or to survive a long time.

Question:
Do you agree or disagree with the following statement?
Students are more influenced by their teachers than by their friends.
Use specific reasons and examples to support your answer.
Some people claim that students are more influenced by their teachers than by their friends because teachers are believed to be more experienced and persuasive and thus students tend to take their advice more often. But in fact, students do have a tendency to be influence more by their fellows and follow their behaviors to fit in the group.

To begin with, the suggestions from friends who share equal status are more likely to be accepted. Nevertheless, suggestions from teachers, who are relatively superior, often sound like command or order which are of no space for discussion. Such strict order may lead to students\\\' resistance subconsciously. In other words, as friends are in equal status with us, we can still choose to take their advice or not comfortably. To give an specific example, when I was in high school busy preparing for the final exams, my class teacher asked me to take a run everyday in order to maintain my physical and mental wellness. I did go out for a run, but not on a daily bases, considering such task as a tiring assignment. Things changed after I talked with my friends, who discussed the benefit of workout with me and suggested that I go exercise everyday. Later I took his advice and found runing interesting and relaxing.

Second, students show a tendency to immitate their friends\\\' behavior. Unlike teachers, who merely spend limited time with students during classes, friends are people with whom students spend most of their day. Intentionally or unintentionally, friends are mutually influenced. As the saying goes, one takes on the color of one\\\'s company. Having a friend who studies hard may help one nurture characteristic of diligence; being accompanied by a friend who always finds the easy way out may make one more flexible. However, on the negative side, when one\\\'s friends are addicted to bad habit such as smoking, he should be well aware not to be influenced.

Admittedly, teachers are playing a major role to impart knowledge, without whom students can hardly achieve academic height. But students learn from their peers in school at the same time through several ways such as group discussions and teamwork. It is from such experience that students cultivate a sense of responsibility, nurture teamspirit, foster perseverance. Such merits are as crucial for their future career as their academic bases.

For those reason, we can safely conclude that even though teachers are playing indispensable role in students\\\' growth, friends exert more influence on students than their teachers.
