Topic:

Some people claim that not enough of the waste from homes isrecycled. They say that the only way to increase recycling is for governmentsto make it a legal requirement. To what extent do you think laws are needed to make people recyclemore of their waste? 提前谢谢修改的老师!

Essay:

It is undeniable that the more waste isrecycled, the better the environment will be, thus human beings can benefit substantially. However, I do not tend to believe that it is necessary to introduce laws tocommand households to recycle their home waste.

compared with industrial waste, the amountof waste generated by homes are a very small counterpart. It is a Catch-22 asthere are limited technology applied in handling household waste. It would bequite difficult for individuals to recycle their waste according to the law.

That being said, governments should takealternatives to encourage more people to get involved in the recycling. For instance, allowance can be made to rewarded households who make certain contributions inthe work of recycling. Such incentives are especially effective in socially disadvantagedareas, where people usually have little knowledge or awareness in protectingthe environment.

Other bodies of the society have theobligations to promote the concept of recycling as well. Schools should adoptcurriculums that address the importance of protecting of our mother Earth, sochildren grow up with a cognition about environment protection and apply the taughtmethods in their daily life. The power of mess media is also indispensablesince it often leads the trend of a social topic. In this case, if moreeducational news articles, comments or television programmers can be created toeducate the audience with solutions to turn our daily waste into useful thingsto our environment, I believe laws would be unnecessary at all.

To conclude, laws are not the only way to requirepeople to recycle more of their household waste, school education and publicawareness can play a critical role this campaign as well.
