Question:
Do you agree or disagree with the following statement?
It is more important for students to understand ideas and concepts than itis for them to learn facts.
Use specific reasons and examples to support your answer.

Inthis day and age, the issue of education has drawn widespread attention. Some people tend to show their supportto the idea that it is more significant for students to understand ideas andconcepts, while others are at odds with them. As far as I am concerned, I have the inclination to assert that thisissue should be based on a case-by-case analysis.
Withoutdoubt, by no means are we supposed to neglect the fact that ideas and conceptsplay the important role in education in some cases, especially when we takeprimary school students into account. Considering that they lack basic knowledge learnt from schooland their parents, if they only learn the facts, what they know is just whathappened rather than why it happened. In addition, it is a truth universally acknowledged thatchildren are likely to have wrong or even evil concepts, which is harmful tochildren's physical and mental health. I have a story to tell, which can best illustrate this view. When I was in primary school, oneday I found a rainbow with various kinds of colors, and I thought it waspainted by someone. Ialso tied to make a rainbow by splashing color in the park near my house. Everyone said I was a bad girl. Fortunately, the encyclopediabrought by my father told me that the formation of a rainbow depends on waterand sunlight, then I realized that what I originally thought was totally wrong. After learning about the concept, Icorrected my mistake in time.
In spiteof the validity of the fact that it is more important for students tounderstand ideas and concepts, however, it is irrational to take it for grantedthat it is correct under all circumstances, particularly when it comes tomiddle school students. Tobe specific, there is no denying that facts can help students to understandideas and concepts well after having learnt relevant theories. On the other hand, there is a gapbetween fact and idea. Onthe basis of theories, learning facts can make them better integrate into thereal society. It ismore conducive to the future development. This point is demonstrated with the example of my neighbor. Mike devoted himself to acquiringtheoretical knowledge and neglect practice during his schooling. When he graduated, he finallyfound the difference between theory and reality. It was hard for him to find an ideal job. In the end, he accepted alow-paid job. Mikestill needed support from his parents to relieve his financial pressure.
Based on the aforementioned analyses,we can come to a conclusion safely that the statement is biased. One step further, for primaryschool students, the valid part of the statement should never be underestimated. While, as soon as middle schoolstudents are involved, it would be reasonable for us to maintain that thisstatement is over-generalized.
